Meet the Boss

Every good crew has a supervisor. At JD Flooring, that job belongs to the dog. He rides shotgun to every quote, though some mornings he insists on the driver's seat, and he inspects the finished floor before anyone else is allowed to walk on it.

He does not measure, level or lay a single plank. What he does is set the tone the whole business runs on: show up, do it right, and be good to people. He has also never once missed a lunch break.

His name? Ask Joey. For now, everyone just calls him the Boss.

Thirty-two years, one set of hands

Joey did not come to flooring through a franchise or a weekend course. He grew up in the trade and took over the family business in 2010, and across 32 years he has installed just about every floor there is: hardwood, vinyl plank, laminate, tile and carpet, plus the stairs and custom showers that go with them, in homes and cottages across North Bay and Muskoka.

A specialist, not a jack of all trades

A general contractor lays a floor and moves on to the next trade. Joey only does flooring, so he sees what a room actually needs before anything goes down. If the subfloor has to be levelled first, he levels it. That is the difference between a floor that still looks right in five years and one that cups, gaps or squeaks by spring. You pick and buy the material, Joey installs it right, and he backs the workmanship with a one-year warranty when the job is done to the specification he recommends.

When you choose JD Flooring, you get Joey

No call centre and no crew you have never met. The person who quotes your floor is the person who installs it, and he treats your home like he would want his own treated. That is how JD Flooring earned its name in North Bay, and it is why so much of the work comes from repeat customers and referrals. The Boss takes full credit, of course.

Good to know

About JD Flooring: common questions

Q. Who actually installs my floor?

Joey does, personally. JD Flooring is install-only with no rotating crews, so the person who quotes your floor is the same person who lays it. When you choose JD Flooring, you get Joey.

Q. How long has JD Flooring been in business?

Joey has 32 years on the tools and took over the family flooring business in 2010. It has been a North Bay name for a long time, and most new work still comes from repeat customers and referrals.

Q. Do you really bring the dog to jobs?

Often, yes. The Boss rides along to quotes and keeps an eye on things. He stays clear of the work and out of your way, and Joey is happy to leave him in the van if you would prefer.

Q. Do I buy the flooring myself?

Yes. JD Flooring is install-only, so you choose and buy your own flooring at your own price with no showroom markup, and Joey supplies the consumables and installs it right.

Q. Where does Joey work?

JD Flooring covers North Bay and roughly 100 kilometres around it, from Callander, Powassan and Sturgeon Falls to the Muskoka cottage towns. See the full list on the service areas page.
